Pakistan and New Zealand are locking horns in the ongoing second Test in Karachi. In the game, the Kiwis won the toss and elected to bowl first. With this, Pakistan’s sorrow with the ball continued for the first two sessions as they could pick only one wicket. Before the Tea Break, the World Test Championship 2021 winners amassed 226/1 in 58 overs.

Former Test skipper Kane Williamson and Devon Conway were batting at the crease. In the second over of the evening session, Naseem Shah managed to nick Williamson behind. However, with no enthusiasm and appeal from the players, the latter remained not out. However, a few overs later, Shah finally got the wicket of the 2021 WTC-winning skipper. Sarfaraz Ahmed took a brilliant catch behind the stumps.

Talking about the game, the quick wickets of Conway and Williamson bought about a mini collapse for the Tim Southee-led side. In the last session, the team lost three more wickets to finish Day One on 309/6. Overall, they lost five wickets in the last session. On the other hand, this has been Pakistan’s best bowling performance in home Tests from March last year.

In the series against Australia, England, and now New Zealand, they didn’t pick this many wickets in one session. Against England, they conceded too many runs while picking wickets in all three Tests. This proved costly as they were cleanly swept by an away team for the first time in their history. In the ongoing series against the Kiwis, the series is drawn 0-0 as the first Test ended in a draw. The winner of the ongoing game will end up winning the series.

Talking about both teams in the ongoing WTC 2021-23 cycle, defending champions, New Zealand has been knocked out as well as Pakistan from the finals race. Only India and Australia are looking favorites to play the title clas with South Africa losing their ongoing series against the Aussies.
