South African batter Quinton De Kock has been having a great time with the bat in the Caribbean Premier League 2022. The southpaw is the second-highest run-scorer for his team Barbados Royals. The wicketkeeper batter scored a brilliant 74 off 43 balls against Jamaica Tallawahs in match 19 of the ongoing season. During his innings, De Kock clobbered a massive six straight into the stands, the video of which was shared by the official CPL account on Twitter.

The incident took place on the fourth ball of the final over of the first innings of the match. De Kock, who was batting on 68 off 41 balls, pulled a half tracker from Nicholson Gordon launching the ball way over the deep mid-wicket boundary. The sound of the bat as it hit the ball was euphonous to the viewers and the commentator Darren Ganga who said ‘aaah! That sounded sweet as and it goes long’.

Coming back to the match, after being put in to bat, Barbados Royals lost wickets in heap as they were left reeling at 47/4 after 9.2 overs. Quinton De Kock and captain David Miller got together at the crease and added 83 runs off just 57 balls for the fifth wicket. De Kock smashed seven boundaries and three humongous sixes in his innings which took his team to a total of 146/6 after 20 overs.

However, the Royals’ bowling attack couldn’t save their team from a loss as the Tallawahs were in command of the chase when rain played spoilsport in the match. They were handed a win by six runs as per the DLS method as no play could take place after 17 overs due to rain. As a result, the Royals received their first defeat of the season.

De Kock has scored 221 runs in the season so far in seven innings at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 128. He also has two half-centuries to his name. The Barbados Royals are having a great season in the Caribbean Premier League as they’re placed at the top of the table having won seven out of their eight matches. The Royals will go head-to-head against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots today starting at 7:30 PM (IST).
