Afghanistan and Sri Lanka played each other in the must-win game in the Super 12 round of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. It was expected to be a tight game given the stakes around the game. For obvious reasons, emotions were bound to flare during the game. As expected the same happened during Sri Lanka’s innings. In the eighth over of the innings, Fazalhaq Farooqi misfielded.

This led to Kusal Mendis sneaking a single which didn’t go down well with Rashid Khan. Three deliveries later, the latter took the wicket of Mendis. The leggie was surrounded by his teammate after the wicket when Khan decided to rough up his teammate, Farooqi. In the video, it is clearly visible that Khan wasn’t ready to forgive his teammate for the misfield. The video of the incident is going viral on the internet.

Talking about the game, Afghanistan scored only 144/8. In reply, after the early hiccups, the 2014 winners chased down the target in just 18.3 overs and had six wickets in hand. After the game, Lankan Lions skipper Dasun Shanaka said that the team did well with the bat and ball. He added that the team would be looking forward to doing well in their remaining game against England

“It was a good performance with bat and bowl. Special credit to Dhananjaya de Silva. He showed in T20s that it is not about taking the bowlers on and he timed it well. I think we found some consistency today and it is important to continue it in the next game. The other games are beyond our control but the aim is to win the next game with a healthy rate.”

Notably, the former champions’ Net Run Rate was impacted due to Australia’s winnings by a huge margin. After four games, their NRR is (-0.457). They would need to beat the 2010 winners, England by a heavy margin, and hope for other results to go their way to reach the semis.
