England and Pakistan are currently locking horns for the 20-20 World Cup 2022 title at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Both teams have the opportunity to win their second title in the history of the tournament. The Green Brigade won it for the first time in 2009. 11 months later in 2010, the Three Lions won it. Since then, they haven’t been able to win the title.

Meanwhile, ahead of the ongoing game, the 2011 ODI World Cup winner Sachin Tendulkar made some ‘accurate’ predictions for the game. He said that the Jos Buttler-led side would look to bowl first. The right-hander cited swinging conditions on offer. Notably. the 2010 winners elected to bowl first after winning the toss. Buttler at the toss said “Huge game, good nerves, good energy around the team and in the stadium. Both teams in red-hot form, looks a good wicket, a bit of weather around which is why we bowled first.”

England did make the most of the conditions

After electing to bowl first, the England bowlers showed why their skipper made the decision. They restricted the 2009 winners to 137/8 at the end of the innings. Sam Curran took three wickets while Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan took two each. Ben Stokes also took a wicket. After the first innings, Rashid spoke to the broadcasters. He said that the team is happy with the score they are chasing

“As long as the collective is doing well, it’s not an individual game. Assess the pitch and conditions, they may like the ball a bit quicker, so slowing it up was my strength. A lot of twos and threes out there, so run hard to the boundary fielders, and be courageous. If we’d been offered 137 so we’d have been very happy,” the 2019 ODI World Cup said. In reply, the Red Army has scored 61/3 in eight overs, needing another 77 runs off 72 balls. At this stage, England looks favorites to lift the title.
