Saudi Arabia shocked the world after beating two-time winners, Argentina on Day Three of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022. It was a game of unequals as the former champions are the world’s number three team. On the other hand, the Asian side is ranked number 51. Meanwhile, at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, the world saw the Asian side beat the football giants by 2-1.

After the game, there were scenes of fans having a plethora of emotions across Saudi Arabia and among the fans present at the venue. Meanwhile, some fans outside the stadium saw a TV journalist doing a post-match piece. The same bunch took an opportunity to take a dig at Argentina legend Lionel Messi. One fan interrupted the journalist’s work and sarcastically asked ‘Where is Messi?’.

After the game, the 35-year-old spoke to the reporters. He refrained from making any excuses and stated that his side is more united than ever.

“There are no excuses,” Messi told reporters after the match. “We are going to be more united than ever. This group is strong, and we have shown it. It is a situation that we haven’t gone through in a long time. Now we have to show that this is a real group.”

“It’s a very hard blow because we did not expect to start in this way,” Messi said.

Now, the two-time winners need to win their remaining games to qualify for the Round of 16 knockouts. They will next against Mexico on November 26 and Poland on November 30. Both these games are effectively must-win for the Blue Brigade. On the other hand, Saudi will play against Poland on November 26 before Argentina’s game against Mexico. After this, the Asian side will play against Mexico on November 30 right after Argentina’s game. A win in one of these games will effectively send the team to knockouts for the first time.
