It seems that Shakib Al Hasan isn’t ready to follow the rules of the game. Apparently, in the last couple of years, arguing with the umpires and disrupting a game is an offense. Not to forget, in the fourth game of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2023, the Bangladesh all-rounder had trouble with the square leg umpire. It was about the wide call that wasn’t given.

This time, it happened before the second innings of game number seven between Fortune Barisal and Rangpur Riders. The Riders batted first and amassed 158/7 with former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik scoring a fifty. Meanwhile, ahead of the Barisal’s innings, openers, Chaturanga de Silva and Anamul Haque chose their ends according to the bowler. However, Riders skipper Nurul Hasan changed the bowler.

When Hasan learned that left-hander Chaturanga is on strike, the former replaced left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan with all-rounder Mehidy Hasan. After watching, Shakib Al Hasan instructed his batters to change ends from the boundary line. The players got confused and the umpires were facing difficulties to resume the game. After a while, the Bangladesh T20I skipper barged onto the field to take the matter into his hands.

Shakib Al Hasan, Anamul Haque, and Nurul Hasan were fined for misconduct

After the game, the trio of Shakib, Anamul, and Nurul were fined by the match officials for their match fees. They were fined 15 percent of their match fees according to Article 2.4 of the BCB’s code of conduct. In other words, the article states that disobeying the umpire’s instruction is a punishable offense. Meanwhile, after the game and before the fine was imposed, Nurul spoke to the media about the incident. He said that he changed the bowlers after seeing Shakib screaming from the boundary line.

“I was changing the bowlers seeing Shakib bhai screaming from outside. This is the first time I saw (the captain entering the field like that),” he said.
