The third ODI between India and Sri Lanka was an extremely one-sided game. The Men In Blue dominated the proceedings, either with the bat or with the ball. Meanwhile, during the Sri Lanka innings, Shreyas Iyer managed to bowl an over for the first time since January last year. The right-hander bowled a few overs in the third ODI against South Africa at the time.

Since then, Iyer didn’t roll his arms over across all formats of the game including the Indian T20 League 2022. Meanwhile, the Mumbaikar was asked to bowl one over after the Lankan Lions had lost eight wickets for 51 runs in the 16th over. In the 17th over, India skipper Rohit Sharma asked Iyer to bowl an over as the team wanted to see Mohammed Siraj get to his five-wicket haul.

The right-arm pacer wreaked havoc as he took four wickets of the powerplay and broke the back of the opposition. However, number 10 batter, Kasun Rajitha ensured Siraj couldn’t reach the milestone. Meanwhile, Iyer spun his first ball sharply and it resulted in Virat Kohli’s getting shocked.

Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli stitched the fastest 100-run partnership of the game

While batting first, India had a great start as openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitched a partnership of 95 runs. This partnership laid a good platform. The latter scored his second ODI hundred. Gill and Virat Kohli stitched a partnership of 131 runs in just 110 balls. After the former’s wicket, Iyer and Kohli stitched a quick partnership of 108 off just 71 balls.

The former scored 38 off 32 balls and played the anchor with Kohli taking centerstage. Thanks to their efforts, the home team amassed 390/5. In reply, the Dasun Shanaka-led side was bowled 73 runs with Ashen Bandara not coming out to bat. He got injured while fielding during India’s inning.
