It is a day to remember for Jammu and Kashmir player, Umran Malik as he made his ODI debut in the ongoing game against New Zealand. In June this year, he made his T20I debut and played three games. Months after this, he has now made his ODI debut. He received his ODI cap from stand-in head coach VVS Laxman.

However, the tearaway pacer didn’t realize that a cameraperson shooting the video was behind him. The right-arm pacer almost collided with the camera person. If it weren’t for Malik’s teammates who shouted “Are camera udhar hai (The camera is there),” Malik could have started his ODI career by colliding with the camera person. The players were heard laughing after the entire incident.

Talking about the game, the Men In Blue amassed 306/7 after being asked to bat first by the Kiwis. Stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan (72) and Shubhman Gill (50) stitched an opening partnership of 124 runs. They failed to convert their start into a big total. Thanks to Shreyas Iyer (80), Sanju Samson (38), and Washington Sundar (37* off 16), the team reached a decent total.

Sundar is playing his first ODI after sustaining an injury during the Zimbabwe tour. He played a game in the T20I series as well. After the first innings, the left-hander said “All the work I put in worked today. There is some program that needs to be done before the ball is bowled, but there are instincts too… It’s very important to get the timing right, despite the power. It’s a par score.”

At the time of writing, he came to bowl in the powerplay after Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur. The Tamil Nadu played bowled two overs and given only three runs. New Zealand has scored 42/1 in 10 overs, having lost the wicket of Finn Allen to Shardul Thakur.
