In the ongoing third ODI between India and Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli played a majestic inning. He scored an unbeaten 166 runs and took the team to 390 runs. Meanwhile, during the innings, Kohli played a helicopter shot. The incident happened in the 44th over of India’s innings. Kasun Rajitha, bowling at the time, bowled a slower one outside the off-stump. However, the right-hander read the ball and deposited it in the stands.

Only former India skipper MS Dhoni was famous for playing this shot. During his career, the wicketkeeper batter used to hit this particular shot, especially against overpitched and yorker deliveries. Meanwhile, Kohli pulled it off in the ongoing game. Notably, this was his fifth six of his innings. The video is going viral on the internet. Also, Virat has ow reached 46 hundreds and is now only four hundreds to get past Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 ODI hundreds.

Virat Kohli goes past Mahela Jayawardene in terms of ODI runs

Meanwhile, during his unbeaten innings of 166, the 2008 U19 World Cup winner went past former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene. Apparently, the latter has 12650 runs to his name in 448 games. On the other hand, Kohli needed only 62 runs to get past the mark. With 104 more runs, the Delhi player went way past the Lankan legend player in just 268 games.

Also, for the first time in his career, the Bangalore player hit eight sixes in an ODI inning. In the ongoing game, he hit eight sixes, two each against Chamika Karunaratne and Kasun Rajitha. Meanwhile, Kohli’s innings helped the team reach a mammoth total of 390/5 for five at the end of the innings. Notably, this is the highest team total for any team in Thiruvanathapuram’s Greenfield stadium. At the time of writing, the Dasun Shanaka-led side is in grave trouble as they have lost three wickets for 35 runs.
