Delhi and Rajasthan locked horns in the 34th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match turned out to be a high-scoring thriller as 429 runs were scored in the match.

Delhi won the toss in the match and invited Rajasthan to bat first. Jos Buttler played a brilliant knock of 116 runs off 65 deliveries and helped his team to a huge score of 222 runs in their 20 overs. Delhi’s openers in David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave them a brisk start. But Warner was dismissed in the fifth over of the innings and after this wicket kept tumbling throughout the innings.

While Delhi was playing catch up throughout the chase, they found themselves in a position where they required 36 runs off the last six balls. Rajasthan entrusted Obed McCoy with the duty of bowling the last over. Rovman Powell was the batter for Delhi and it required something unreal from him for Delhi to win the match. The West Indian batter slammed three sixes off the first three balls and it appeared like something unreal was on the cards.

But something unwanted happened on the field at this stage that has triggered a controversy among the fans. The third ball was a full toss that was hit for a six by Powell, but the ball looked to be above the waist height. Everyone watching the match felt that it was a no-ball. But the umpire decided that it was fair delivery and that frustrated the Delhi skipper, Rishabh Pant. He looked furious with the decision and was on the verge of calling his team off. He even sent the assistant coach of the team on the field Pravin Amre on the field to convey his stance on the incident. The match later resumed and Delhi lost the match by a margin of 15 runs.

The act of part of the Delhi skipper has divided the fans as they took to Twitter to express their opinions on the matter. While a group of the fans felt that it was unsportsmanlike of Rishabh to do what he did, others felt that the southpaw was well in his rights to protest in the situation. But most of the fans stood behind the Delhi skipper and criticized the level of umpiring in the tournament.
