A new T10 tournament will be conducted by the West Indies T20 League with the name of “The 6ixty”. Organizers of this tournament are quite confident of this to be staged around the region and beyond. It was announced that the tournament will be conducted from August 24 to 28 in St Kitts, immediately before the West Indies T20 League season. Six Men’s and three Women’s franchises will play in this new event.

Several new rules had come under this tournament. These are that the batting team will have six wickets along with the unlock of a floating powerplay by hitting two sixes in the first two overs. Five consecutive overs will be bowled from one end before switching to the other for the next five overs. Fans will also vote for “mystery free hit” via an app while teams need to bowl all 10 overs in 45 minutes only. If any team fails to do that, one player will be removed for the last over as a penalty.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, West Indies T20 League CEO Pete Russell told that the tournament will add a new layer. He said: “The new playing conditions will add a layer of strategic intrigue and make sure that the bowlers won’t just be cannon fodder. You’re going to get some people saying ‘this isn’t cricket’ but my view is that cricket is absolutely the most important element of it. It’s just about trying to generate excitement and interest. It’s like what’s going on with golf right now – you have to look at things through a different lens sometimes. This is about a totally new audience. We’re very much going after the younger generation.”

Chris Gayle will be the brand ambassador of this 6ixty tournament while other West Indies players will be available also for this after their ODI series against New Zealand. Some overseas players are also expected to be present for this tournament.
