‘What a joke why didn’t they pick Ishan then’- X reacts hilariously after Rahul Dravid confirms KL Rahul won’t keep wickets in England Test series
The first Test between India and England will be played in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad from January 25 onwards. And ahead of that, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that KL Rahul will not be keeping wickets in this five-match Test series ahead of the first Test match between India and England.
Indian team management has named two keepers in the squad- KS Bharat and Dhurv Jurel
“Rahul will not be playing as a wicket-keeper in this series and we are clear about that in the selection itself. We have picked two other wicket-keepers and obviously Rahul did a fantastic job for us in South Africa and really played a big part in helping us draw the series,” Rahul Dravid said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Dravid explained India will go for specialist keepers like Bharat or Jurel instead of KL Rahul. Dravid believes It will be very hard to keep against R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Akshar Patel. It needs special skills in turning wickets.
“But considering five Test matches (against England) and playing in these conditions the selection will be between the two other keepers we have,” he explained.
“The Indian team will once again be playing on turners, and the team management felt that specialist spinners should handle the job at home. The team has many quality spinners, and the team won’t take any chances, especially when the pitch being offered will be a turner,” the report quoted an Indian Cricket Board source as saying.
KS Bharat recently scored a magnificent ton vs the England Lions in Hyderabad. Even though he has not really made a mark with the bat, his efforts behind the wickets cannot be undermined.
From 91 First-Class matches, Bharat took 287 catches and 33 stumpings.
On the other hand, Dhuruv Jurel, the Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper, is yet to make his international debut and it is anticipated that he might not be included as the wicketkeeper for this series.
