Why Arjun Tendulkar was not selected in the Mumbai playing XI in Indian T20 League 2022?
Arjun Tendulkar has been famous in the Indian cricket circuit even before he has played a single match for the nation or even his Indian T20 League franchise. The sole reason for his popularity so far has been his surname. For the unversed, Arjun Tendulkar is the son of the Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Notably, Arjun has been a part of the Mumbai team in the Indian T20 League for the past two seasons. But in both seasons, he did not get to play a single match for the team. Mumbai’s bowling coach the former New Zealand speedster Shane Bond has spoken up about why Arjun did not make it to the playing eleven in the last two seasons.
According to Bond, Arjun still needs to develop himself. Mumbai had several young recruits in their squad for the latest edition of the tournament. Players like Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Ramandeep Singh, Kumar Karthikeya, Hrithik Shoukeen, and Sanjay Yadav got a chance to play for the franchise, while Arjun just warmed the bench.
The former New Zealand pacer stated that Arjun needs to work on his batting and fielding before he finds a place in the playing XI.
“He’s got some work to do. When you’re playing for a team like Mumbai, making the squad is one thing but entering the playing XI is another. He still has a lot of hard work and development to do. When you play at this level, there’s a fine line between giving everyone a game… but you have to earn your spot too. Arjun needs to work on his batting and fielding before finding a place on the team. Hopefully, he can make those progressions and earn a spot in the team,”-Bond said during a conversation with Sportskeeda.
Sachin Tendulkar, himself also spoke about his advice to his son on the challenges the young man will face in his career. “My conversation with Arjun has always been that the path is going to be challenging, it is going to be difficult. You started playing cricket because you are in love with cricket, continue to do so, continue to work hard and results will follow,” -Sachin said on SachInsight.
