India and Thailand Women’s teams locked horns in the 19th game of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2022 in Sylhet. Talking about both teams, Thailand was coming off three back-to-back wins after losing their first two games. The three wins include the famous upset against Pakistan. Talking about their first two games, they lost to host Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively.

They came back well with wins against Pakistan, UAE, and Malaysia respectively. After these wins, they need to win against India to secure their place in the semifinal. However, it was going to be a monumental task. After all, the Women In Blue were looking to finish at the top of the table. This made the game much more interesting for the fans.

However, what turned out during the game was an absolute annihilation from the Indian camp. After winning the toss, they asked Thailand to bat first on a turning wicket. The Thais had no answer to the brilliant display of spin bowling from the Indian trio of – Sneh Rana, Deepti Sharma, and Rajeshwari Gaikwad. The trio shared eight wickets in the game.

Thailand was bowled out on a record total

Thailand was bowled out for 37 runs in 15.1 overs. The lowest total in the history of the tournament is 15 all-out by Hong Kong in 2012. Meanwhile, Thailand’s effort, or the lack of it tells how badly they struggled against the quality Indian bowling line-up. Talking about Thailand’s batting, only Nannapat Koncharoenki (12) could cross the double-digit mark. As expected, the Smriti Mandhana-led side chased down the target in just six overs. However, they lost the wicket of Shafali Verma in the process. Sabbhineni Meghna and Pooja Vatsrakar finished off the game.

With this win, India is assured of the first-place finish unless Pakistan or Sri Lanka managed to win by a big margin in their last game. Both teams will play each other on October 11 and are assured of their places in the semifinals.
