The Bangalore franchise have finally found their winning ways in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League as they registered their second win of the season after defeating the Gujarat Franchise by 8 wickets at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Sophie Devine was the main anchor for Bangalore’s win with her fiery knock as she missed her hundred by just 1 run.

Batting first, Gujarat posted a total of 188 runs for the loss of 4 wickets powered by the 68-run knock by Laura Wolvaardt off 42 balls including nine fours and two sixes. Wolvaardt put up a partnership of 63 runs with Sabbhineni Meghana (31 off 32) for the second wicket. While Ashleigh Gardner added 52 runs with Gardner before the fall of the third wicket.

Gardner took charge in the middle overs by scoring 41 runs off 26 balls hitting six fours and a maximum. Dayalan Hemalatha (16 off 6) and Harleen Deol (12 off 5) added the finishing touches to take the score beyond 180. For Bangalore, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, and Megan Schutt shared a wicket each.

Mandhana – Devine laid the foundation for an epic run chase

Chasing the winning total, Bangalore get off to a flying start as the skipper Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine smashed 125 runs before the loss of the first wicket in 9.3 overs. Mandhana was looking in good touch after back-to-back failures in the season, but she got out after getting a good start. The Bangalore skipper got out after scoring 37 runs off 31 balls hitting five fours and a maximum.

On the other hand, Devine was in fire mode as she got out after smashing 99 runs off just 36 balls. The Kiwi batter hit nine fours and eight sixes during her innings. After Devine’s dismissal, Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight took the charge as Bangalore scored the winning total by losing 2 wickets in just 15.3 overs. Skipper Sneh Rana and Kim Garth were the only wicket-takers for the Gujarat franchise.

However, this win won’t be enough for Bangalore as they still need to win the next two games to stay alive in the tournament. Talking about the first match of the day, Mumbai suffered their first loss in the tournament as they got bowled out for 127 runs against the UP franchise. While Up chased the winning total losing 5 wickets with three balls remaining.
