On 20 August 2022, India locked horns with Zimbabwe for the second ODI match of the series. However, India won the series opener by 10 wickets. After winning the white-ball series in England and West Indies, India can win another overseas ODI series with this win in the second match.

Now, speaking of the match, KL Rahul won the toss again and he opted to field first. Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar missed the playing XI after his match-winning spell in the first match. In place of him, Shardul Thakur came into the team. Zimbabwe players were looking to make a comeback in the series. They did the same when they defeated Bangladesh in both the T20I and ODI series earlier this month.

India won the match by five wickets against Zimbabwe

But, Zimbabwe batters failed miserably again. They lost their four wickets for 31 runs in 12.4 overs. In the middle order, veteran batter Sean Williams scored 42 runs off 42 balls, including three boundaries and one six. Ryan Burl also scored 39* runs off 47 balls, including the same number of boundaries. Zimbabwe finished on 161 runs in 38.1 overs only. Shardul Thakur made an impressive comeback. He grabbed three wickets in seven overs by conceding only 38 runs.

In reply, Indian openers did not find it easy like in the first match. KL Rahul came out to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan. But, he failed to score big as he lost his wicket after scoring 1 run only. Then, Dhawan and Gill both scored 33 runs each to bring some stability to the chase. But, it was Sanju Samson who became the highest run-scorer. He remained not out for 43 runs off 39 balls, including three boundaries and four sixes. India managed to chase down the target of 162 runs easily by losing five wickets only. They won the match with 24.2 overs to spare. With this win, India sealed another away ODI series. They will face again in the third and final match of the series on 22 August 2022.
