Babar Azam, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, had a fiery response to a journalist who questioned his strike rate after his team’s six-wicket loss to Islamabad United in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Thursday.

In the post-match press conference, the journalist asked Babar about his strike rate, to which the right-hander replied, “Why not a strike rate of 300?” He then went on to explain that his team had a good start but failed to capitalize on it, leading to a middle-order collapse.

“We had a good start and executed our plans till then, but we lost back-to-back wickets. Hasan Ali bowled well, and we lost the momentum. We tried to get it back, but it was too late, and we didn’t get any partnerships. This was a 180-200 wicket. We are starting well but are not finishing strongly, and that is an area we need to work on,” Babar said.

Despite his own impressive knock of 75 off 58 balls, Babar was disappointed with the team’s batting performance and urged his players to improve for the remaining games. He credited Mohammad Haris for his quickfire batting in the powerplay but lamented the lack of support from other batsmen.

“But there are positives, especially with the way Haris is batting in the powerplay. I started well but didn’t finish the way I would have liked. It would have been different if there was a proper batter to support me at the other end,” he said.

Peshawar Zalmi will look to bounce back in their next game against Lahore Qalandars on Sunday. Babar and his team will be hoping for a better batting performance and stronger partnerships to secure a win.

Babar’s befitting reply to the journalist’s question showcases his confidence in his own abilities and his team’s potential. Despite the loss, he remains focused on improving and leading his team to victory in the upcoming matches.
