The first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is scheduled to happen between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium will host the first match of the IPL after a long wait. Moreover, the authorities have released the IPL schedule for the first 17 days and the next half of the tournament will be released after the announcement of the election dates.

The tournament’s first game will kick off at 8 PM IST, with the other matches commencing at 7.30 p.m. IST for evening games and 3.30 p.m. IST for the early game on days where there are doubleheaders. The original schedule calls for four doubleheaders, including two on opening weekend. The day game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will take place at home on March 23. Then, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders will host Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Moreover, this year, MS Dhoni will play again on the first day of the competition. To resume training with his team, he is scheduled to arrive in Chennai during the first week of March. Shortly after leading CSK to victory over Titans in a rain-soaked two-day final in Ahmedabad last season, he went through knee surgery and hasn’t played competitive cricket since.

Chennai Super Kings’ chances to win IPL 2024

Chennai Super Kings are set to start their IPL 2024 journey on March 22 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. With MS Dhoni leading the team, CSK will be hoping to see some fire-cracking innings from their captain during the tournament. Moreover, the team has a huge fan base and is loved by many cricket experts as well for their consistency in the IPL. In the 2023 season, CSK won their fifth IPL title equalling Mumbai Indians.

Since they have some great players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Daryll Mitchell, Devon Conway, and Deepak Chahar, the team seems to be balanced in terms of batting and bowling. Previously, it was CSK’s batters who helped them win the trophy. Hopefully, this year too, the entire team will give their best to defend their title.
