England pacer Jofra Archer has been bought by Mumbai for 8 crores. Archer will be unavailable for this season due to an. Notably, he still decided to put his name in the player auction list. The pacer has played for Rajasthan from 2018 till 2020. He was unavailable in the last season and the franchise decided to release him ahead of the auction.

He hasn’t played any competitive cricket since last February and missed the Test summer against New Zealand and India. The Barbados-born player also missed the Ashes. Meanwhile, he entered the auction at a base price of 2 crores INR. His old team Rajasthan and Mumbai tussled with each other for the services of the 2019 World Cup winner.

They kept bidding for him till the prices went 6.5 crores. At this point, Hyderabad entered into the fray and kept competing with Mumbai but the latter came up trumps at 8 crores. Interestingly enough, if he gets injured and doesn’t play the upcoming season, the franchise won’t get any replacement. However, experts and journalists suggest that Archer could have costed more in the next years’ auction, which makes this buy a valuable for the team in the future.

Although, they added that if he is available, he could be a lethal pairing alongside Jasprit Bumrah, who was retained by the five-time winners. Fans are optimistic and are excited to see an Archer-Bumrah pair in the upcoming season, although they are worried of the former’s fitness.
