Rain might spoil 20-20 World Cup 2022 final between England and Pakistan
After 26 days of action among 16 teams, two teams, Pakistan and England have qualified for the title clash of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. This game is touted as a repeat of the 1992 ODI World Cup final played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Notably, the upcoming title clash will be played at the same venue. Also, not to forget, both teams are playing each other in a final after 30 years.
In the last 30 years, neither of these teams could play each other in the final of a World Event. Besides, both teams have the opportunity to win their second 20-20 World Cup 2022 title. The Green Brigade hasn’t won it since its title-winning campaign in 2009. On the other hand, the Three Lions won it in 2010. Meanwhile, their hopes of winning the title might be spoiled by rain.
England and Pakistan might have to share the trophy
As the readers might be aware, Melbourne faced a flood-like situation last month. This was the reason some of the games were either abandoned or decided with the help of the Duckworth-Lewis Stern Method (DLS). Now, after days of ‘dry days’ in the capital city of Victoria, the rain will return on the day of the final (November 13) and the reserve day (November 14).
“Cloudy. Very high (near 100%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe. Winds east to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h turning northerly 25 to 35 km/h during the morning then decreasing to 15 to 20 km/h in the evening,” read the statement on the website of the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology.
“Cloudy. Very high (95%) chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h turning westerly 25 to 40 km/h during the morning then decreasing to 15 to 25 km/h during the afternoon,” read the statement on the website.
If the rain wins, it will be an anti-climatic end to what has been an exciting World Cup in Australia. In the tournaments, as many as seven teams have pulled off upsets.
