‘Chor baazar me bik rhe honge abhi’ – Fans react as 16 bats and other cricket equipment of Delhi Capitals players get stolen while traveling
Several Delhi Capitals players’ bats and other cricket equipment from their kits were reportedly stolen when they arrived in Delhi on Sunday, April 16. According to a report, sixteen bats disappeared after landing, along with pads, shoes, thigh pads, and gloves while travelling to Delhi from Bangalore after their game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) the day before.
Three bats that were stolen are believed to have belonged to DC captain David Warner, two to all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, three to English wicket-keeper Phil Salt, and five to Yash Dhull. The players discovered this when they received their individual kits in their rooms, and they informed the franchise executives of the situation, who then filed a formal complaint. Despite this disaster, the DC players completed their practice on Tuesday, April 18.
“All of them were shocked when they heard that everyone had lost something or the other from their kit bags. This is the first time such an incident has happened and the matter was soon raised to the logistics department, police, and later at the airport. The investigation is on” a Delhi Capitals source was quoted as saying on Sportskeeda.
We are a much better side than what is happening on the field at the moment: Sourav Ganguly
DC’s on-field performance has sadly become worse as the season has progressed; the team has dropped its first five games and is currently last in the standings. On Thursday, April 20, they will play the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Arun Jaitely Stadium, in Delhi.
Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals, was confident about the team’s chances of turning things around despite the team’s fifth straight defeat to start the season. Ganguly addressed the team and encouraged them to turn things around despite the disastrous start in a video that the Capitals posted on their social media handle.
“We need to put this behind us. Back the captain, back each other together and we’ll come back fresh next game. We can’t get worse than this we can only get better, still nine games to go and we can win 9 out of 9. It doesn’t matter if we qualify or don’t qualify, it doesn’t matter so much for us at this stage,” the former left-hand opener stated.
“But let’s look our inside, play for ourselves, play for our pride, and see if we can get there. We are a much better side than what is happening on the field at the moment. It just takes one game to turn around and we’ll do that. Let’s stick to David (Warner), he’s the captain, and he’s is the most important man in the team,” the 50-year-old asserted.
