Former India player gives cheeky comment over Netherlands player reading paper during ODI World Cup 2023 clash against South Africa
The Netherlands defeated South Africa by 38 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the HPCA ground in Dharamshala. This is not the first time they defeated Temba Bavuma’s side, previously they beat them in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Roelof van der Merwe was one of the stars of the match as the former South African came back and haunt his former nation.
The Men in Orange were struggling at 141/7 at 34 overs. Captain Scott Edwards played a captain’s knock as he scored 78 runs and was unbeaten till the end and they scored 104 runs in 9 overs and posted a total of 245/8. In reply, the Proteas were never in the game after their openers were back in the pavilion as they crumbled and were bowled out for 207 runs.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised Scott Edward’s side on their first victory against the Proteas. He made a cheeky comment asking about what was written on the piece of paper. The picture of the same has gone viral on the internet and fans have liked the factor that they have used their limited resources well.
Especially in bowling. Wo chitthi mein kya hai: Irfan Pathan
Pathan posted on Twitter, “Netherlands many many congratulations on your historic win. You were disciplined throughout the game. Especially in bowling. Wo chitthi mein kya hai???”.
Former India great Sachin Tendulkar also posted, “This World Cup is throwing up interesting results! Was nice to see the Netherlands Captain Scott Edwards lead from the front with a fighting knock after they were 140/7 at one stage. What pleased me the most about them in the field was how they put the SA batters under pressure. A win and a night to remember for them!”
After the match skipper Edwards said, “I suppose we go into every game with our plans and our ways that we’re going to try and win the game. For us, it’s just about playing our best brand of cricket and we feel like if we play well enough on the day, we can beat any side.”
