Eoin Morgan become most successful T20I skipper, beats MS Dhoni
England skipper Eoin Morgan has become the most successful T20I captain. Morgan, who led England to a 26-run win over Sri Lanka in their most recent 20-20 World Cup game, surpassed former India skipper MS Dhoni and former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan. The English skipper now has 43 wins to his name, one more than Dhoni and Afghan, who have 42 victories. Morgan achieved the feat in only his 68th match, while Dhoni had taken 72 matches to achieve the same. Afghan has the best win percentage among the three and tasted success in 42 of the 52 games he led the team.
Meanwhile, the win over Sri Lanka have secured a semifinal berth for England. The team has been unstoppable in the showpiece event and have won all their games so far.
Today, England is considered as one of the best white-ball teams but that was not the case a few years ago. After a group stage exit from the 50-Over World Cup in 2015, England completely transformed their white-ball cricket. The new skipper Morgan induced fearless in the team, which paid dividend when England won the 2019 50-Over World Cup.
Given the way England have played, they are the red hot favourites to win the 20-20 World Cup. England reached the final of the showpiece event in 2016 as well but were deprived of a win by Carlos Brathwaite, who stroked Ben Stokes for four sixes in four balls. The team will be keen to go the distance this time around.
