Community complaints led to several custom map removal in Fortnite

Ever since Fortnite started allowing custom community maps, the game hasn’t been the same. It came as Fortnite’s version of Forge, where people could create some cool maps. These custom maps were then playable by everyone if they passed moderation.

However, like always, there were always some bad actors who created maps simply to troll others. Fortnite had put multiple guidelines on custom map creation. This was to prevent kids from being exposed to inappropriate or offensive material.

Despite that, multiple maps broke these guidelines. With complaints piling up, Fortnite has now decided to take action and ban over 100 custom maps.

“We removed 100+ content violations last weekend directly because of the community bringing it to our attention. We are actively listening,” said the company in its official response.

Why were these maps removed?

Fortnite is one of the largest IPs and a majority of its player base is children. To prevent any form of bad influence on kids, the company decided to implement special guidelines.

However, custom maps breaking these guidelines would pop out time and time again. In recent months, the reports of these violations have been increasing at an alarming rate. This prompted Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, to take action.

Community reaction

The players also commended the move of taking action against those in violation. After all, the community was the one who reported these maps in the first place.

A quick response from the development team is always appreciated in any game. This also helps to put Epic Games on the good side of market regulators and watchdogs. However, some people are still wondering how these maps made it to the public in the first place.
