Reports: Three franchises report positive COVID-19 cases ahead of PSL 2022

The seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to commence on January 27. The tournament will take place entirely in Pakistan and though the security in the country is no more an issue, COVID-19 continues to threaten the tournament like it did in the last two seasons. While in 2020, only the knockout stages had to be postponed and played later, last year, the PSL had to be stopped midway and the remaining matches were played later in the Abu Dhabi.

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is gearing up to host the entire season at home this time around and has made arrangements to deal with the pandemic as well. It is going to be a huge task for the board with increasing cases not only in the country but across the world. The players and officials have started gathering in Karachi for the tournament where the PCB has set up a bio-bubble.

But according to reports in Cricket Pakistan, three franchises have reported positive cases already. The officials from those franchises have confirmed that not only the players but officials have also contracted the virus. As of now, five cases of COVID have been detected and the number is likely to increase in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a couple of PCB officials have also tested positive while some of the players’ family members are also dealing with COVID at the moment. Having said that, PCB is set to deal with COVID-19 this time around. The board has already cleared that the matches will go ahead as long as the number of COVID cases in a team is restricted to 7 or less.
