‘This is one of the worst auctions they ever had’ – Bradd Hogg questions Mumbai’s auction strategy
Former Australia Chinaman bowler Brad Hogg is unhappy with the Mumbai squad after the two-day mega auction happened last weekend. Mumbai had retained their skipper Rohit Sharma alongside vice-captain Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav, and pacer Jasprit Bumrah last November. They have bought back players such as Ishan Kishan, Anmolpreet Singh and Arjun Tendulkar from last year.
This year, the five-time winners have added players such as Dewald Brevis, Basil Thampi, Murugan Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, Tilak Varma, Sanjay Yadav, Jofra Archer, Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Rahul Buddhi, Hrithik Shokeen, Aryan Juyal, and Fabian Allen.
Meanwhile, the two-time ODI World Cup winner has criticized the inclusion of England pacer Jofra Archer, who is unavailable for the upcoming season but was still picked by the team. Hogg also asked who will bat at number five for the team.
“Spending 8Cr on Archer is a huge risk, especially after spending 15 crore on Ishan Kishan. He’s had two elbow surgeries in the last 18 months, that’s the worst injury a fast bowler could have. They have a formidable top order in Rohit, Kishan and Surya and then David at No.4, which is also a risk. Who’s going to bat at No.5 is the big question,” said Hogg.
The former bowler added that there is no depth in the bowling department of the team and they lack a top-class spinner. He concluded saying that the team had the worst auctions ever.
“The bowling department is where their headache starts. They don’t have depth in their bowling and not many top class spinners. They also don’t have finishers like the Pandya brothers. This is one of the worst auctions MI has ever had,” said the former China Man bowler.
