The veteran all-rounder of Pakistan Abdul Razzaq said his former teammate Shoaib Malik had played a selfish inning against Multan Sultans, and because of which, Karachi lost the match against Multan. The 42-year-old Shoaib Malik was able to score a fighting knock of 53 runs in 34 balls. Razzaq had praised his former teammate for that innings but according to him, he played for himself but not for the team.

It was a home match for Multan Sultans. New skipper of Karachi Kings Shan masood had won the toss and opted to field first. Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan lost his wicket very cheaply. He scored only 11 runs. England opener Dawid Malan scored 52 runs off 41 balls, while South African middle-order batter Reeza Hendricks hit a spectacular 79 runs off 54 balls. They contributed 121 runs partnership for the second wicket. Multan Sultans was able to score 185/2 in 20 overs.

Karachi lost wickets in a hurry when they came to chase down the target. One time Karachi was at 10 for 2. Veteran batter Shoaib Malik came at number 4 to rescue his new franchise Karachi Kings. He and skipper Shan Masood added 52 runs for third wicket. Malik scored a brilliant half-century but unfortunately not for a winning cause.

“A player is someone who plays for a team,” Razzaq said on Geo News programme ‘Harna Mana Hai’.

Knowing the caliber of Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq indicates the veteran would have been played with a better strike rate. That would be perfect for the team to chase down the target. According to Razzaq, the match situation demanded big hitting and Malik wasted the opportuniy.

Skipper Shan Masood looked in good touch, but he did not convert his 30 runs to a big innings. The veteran finisher of West Indies Kieron Pollard had secured only 28 off 29 balls. Finally, Multan Sultan swept the match by winning it by 55 runs. Karachi Kings consistently performs poor in last couple of seasons. They failed to qualify for the playoffs race in 2022 and 2023 also. After their opening match in PSL season 9, Karachi’s campaign doesn’t look promising either.
