Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that Indian T20 League teams will spend heavily on Deepak Chahar in the upcoming mega auction. Chahar has played for Chennai since 2018 but was released by the team ahead of the player retention. He has played 63 games and picked 59 wickets, averaging 29.18 at an economy rate of 7.80.

He has carried the responsibility of bowling in the powerplay in the ITL and for India in T20Is. Meanwhile, Chopra has said that teams like Chennai, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad will bid heavily for the right-arm swing bowler.

“Deepak Chahar is your bank in the first three overs. He comes in the Powerplay overs and gets you wickets. He breaks the back of opponents. Won’t say he’s a phenomenal death-overs bowler but can be tried. I think CSK will again bid on him as will Ahmedabad and Lucknow. Every time will go for him. So he’s going to cost you. He’s batting well too now. So, he’s a good prospect with the bat too.”

“He picks up wickets regularly with the new ball. Can’t see any other Indian bowler do it regularly,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel while discussing Chahar’s auction price.

Last year, Chahar won the game for India against Sri Lanka with the bat. He scored 69 not out and stitched a partnership of unbeaten 84 runs alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar to help the side chase down the target of 276 runs. Recently, he scored 54 runs against South Africa and kept the game alive. The right-hander stitched a partnership of 55 runs for eight wickets with Jasprit Bumrah. He got out just before the Men In Blue could go over the line as the team lost by four runs.
