After Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a disappointing loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Wednesday, RCB stand-in skipper Virat Kohli was seriously critical of his teammates. In game 36 of the IPL 2023 at the renowned M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, a misfiring KKR team captained by interim skipper Nitish Rana defeated Kohli’s RCB team.

After RCB lost their fourth game of the ongoing season, Kohli made explosive remarks in which he openly accepted that his team had given the game away. In the 2023 season of the cash-rich league, Bangalore’s most recent loss came against the two-time champions was attributed to their poor fielding and soft dismissals, according to Kohli, who led RCB for the third consecutive game.

It is not something that is making us nervous: Virat Kohli

“To be honest we handed over the game to them. We deserved to lose. We weren’t professional enough. We bowled well but fielding was not up to standard. This was a freebie handed over to them. In the field, we dropped two chances, that cost us 25-30 runs. When batting, we set us ourselves up very well, but then (suffered) four-five soft dismissals,” Kohli was quoted as saying at the post-match presentation.

At the Chinnaswamy Stadium, during the high-scoring match between Bangalore and KKR, Kohli struck a crucial knock of 54 off 37 balls to keep RCB in the game. However, Kohli’s batting brilliance went in vain as RCB could only make 179-8 in their attempt to chase down the enormous score of 201 in 20 overs. The RCB team, under Faf du Plessis, is now in fifth position in the IPL 2023 points table following their 21-run loss to Kolkata.

“Not wicket-taking balls, but we hit straight to the fielders. Even while chasing, after losing wickets, one partnership brought us back in the game. We were one partnership short. We need to stay switched on, and not give away soft plays. We have won one and lost one on the road. It is not something that is making us nervous. We need to win some away games to be in good shape for the later stages of the tournament,” the 34-year-old asserted.
