‘Acchi victory mili aapko’ – Fans react as Multan Sultans beat Islamabad United by 5 wickets to register their 2nd consecutive win in PSL 2024
Multan Sultans beat Islamabad United to continue their winning run in the ongoing PSL 2024. Led well by Mohammad Rizwan, Sultans ended up winning the low-scoring thriller by 5 wickets. A great bowling effort and a handy batting performance from the home side ensured that they won the important game. Despite bowling well, United fell short and ended up losing the match.
Batting first, Islamabad United could score only 144 runs. Agha Salman and Jordan Cox were the only two batters who applied themselves in the middle. While Salman anchored the innings, Cox took the aggressive route and helped the visiting side to keep up with the run rate. However, the dismissal of the two led to an incredible collapse from United. From 82/2 after 11.2 overs at one stage, Islamabad ended up with a score of 144.
In the last 50 balls, United scored only 62 runs and lost 8 wickets. It was the phase where the visiting side lost the match. A bit of application would’ve helped them to cross 150, which would’ve been a fighting total. For Sultans, the ever-reliable bowlers stepped up. David Willey claimed a wicket and Usama Mir returned with figures of 2/29 in his four overs.
Mohammad Rizwan and Reeza Hendricks guide Multan Sultans home
The star bowlers were the likes of Mohammad Ali and Abbas Afridi both of whom claimed three wickets each. Chasing 145 was going to be tricky. The home side lost the wicket of Dawid Malan in the very first over. Reeza Hendricks then anchored the chase with the skipper. The duo batted out the difficult phase and eased towards the win. While Reeza scored 58(46), Rizwan framed 43(33) before being undone by Shadab Khan.
The dismissal of the two did send tremors to the dressing room of Sultans. Wickets fell at a rapid pace and the match looked like going towards a thrilling end. However, Iftikhar Ahmed’s timely finishing saw off the chase for the home side. Naseem Shah and Imad Wasim tried their best to win the match for the United. Unfortunately, it was not their night.
