Former India cricketer turned analyst Ajay Jadeja has been appointed as the mentor of Afghanistan’s team for the ODI World Cup 2023, which is all set to commence in host country India on October 5. Notably, the Afghanistan team will open their journey against Bangladesh on October 7 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
However, before that, the side will be facing Sri Lanka on October 3 for their ODI World Cup 2023 second warm-up game in Guwahati. In addition, their first game against South Africa was washed out on September 29 as the rain halted the play. Notably, the Afghanistan Cricket Board took to Twitter and announced the news. Former India all-rounder Ajay Jadeja seems to be in the team’s jersey with a few players.
The 52-year-old cricketer has terrific records in ODIs, which led the Afghanistan Cricket Board to appoint him as the mentor for the marquee event. In addition, the cricket commentator has appeared in 196 ODI matches for the Indian team while amassing 5359 runs, respectively. The right-handed batter has six hundred and 30 half-centuries to his name. Moreover, the right-arm pacer also had 20 wickets to his credit in the 50-over format.

Speaking about Afghanistan’s past performances, the side has lost the three matches of the ODI series against Pakistan by 0-3 ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Following the same, the side failed to enter the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023 as they suffered back-to-back losses against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the group stages of the Asia Cup 2023.
Meanwhile, talking about their ODI World Cup journey, the Afghanistan team was only able to manage a single win against Scotland during the 2015 ODI World Cup held in Australia. In addition, their side lost all nine matches in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Notably, the squad gave a huge fight to team India; however, Mohammed Shami registered a hattrick in the last over to win the group stage match against Afghanistan back in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Well Afganistan's batting is a bit weak, if they can score some runs, then I am sure their bowlers will do the rest of the job
