‘All the work in the gym doesn’t compare to out there’ – Ben Stokes on his future in ODIs

England’s attacking all rounder batsman Ben Stokes recently talked about his future plans in the one-day international cricket format. Notably, Ben Stokes had previously announced his retirement from the one-day international format of the game last year and had come out of retirement for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Considering England’s poor performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, Stokes has still not decided his future for the format. It is still unsure if he will continue to play in the format or he will announce retirement.

“I’ve no idea. I’m sure there will be a conversation but I don’t know when that will be. I have used the time between games here to give myself a better opportunity after the knee surgery,” said Ben Stokes.

“All the work in the gym doesn’t compare to what you go through out there. I’m looking forward to getting it sorted and not having to worry like I have these past 18 months. From a physical point of view I’m better off than when I first got out here, but physical fitness and cricket fitness are two different things,” he added.

After being awarded as the Player of the Match during the match against Netherlands, Ben Stokes said,  “More pleased with the victory (than scoring a century), it has been a tough World Cup for us. It was a nice wicket to bat on, and had some tennis-ball bounce. We (Woakes and himself) built a good partnership, whenever there was pressure building I had a look at the scoreboard and reminded myself there was a lot of time remaining (in the innings). Tried to take it deep and cash in later. He (Woakes) is a genuine all-rounder for us, he has been a great cricketer for England over the last 2-3 years and today he proved it.”
