The first Ashes Test between England and Australia is building up for a cracking finish. The game seemed to be done and dusted after Australia took a lead of 278 runs in the first innings. England then lost their openers for not much in their second inning. However, what transpired after that was a perfect example of grit and character.

England skipper Joe Root and Dawid Malan saw off the day for England and even took them close to the lead of 278. At the end of Day 3, England are trailing by just 58 runs, with Root and Malan set on 86 and 80 respectively. The duo has added 159 runs for the third wicket.

Meanwhile, India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin is keeping a keen eye on the match. Post the end of a gripping Day of Test cricket, Ashwin took to Twitter and said that if England can bat well on the first session of Day 4, the Gabba Test will head towards a thrilling finish. “It’s all happening at the Gabba and could well be the most happening 5th day if England can trump the first session tomorrow. #ashes.”

England have a fair bit of batting to come but against a quality bowling attack of Australia, one wicket can trigger a collapse thus the wickets of Malan and Root will be key to England’s chances in the match. Meanwhile, Australia will be waiting for the second new ball which is just 10 overs away. Earlier, England were bowled out for 147 in the first innings. In response, Australia had posted a daunting 425.
