‘Ashwin ek hee hai ‘ – Fans rejoice as Ravichandran Ashwin picks fifer against Australia in Nagpur

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has wreaked havoc in the ongoing second innings of the first Test against Australia. In the first innings of the game, he started poorly as he was expensive to start with. However, the two-time World Championship winner ended with three wickets in the first innings. The Aussies were bowled out for 177 runs with Ravindra Jadehja picking a fifer.

In reply, the home team amassed 400 runs with skipper Rohit Sharma scoring a hundred while Axar Patel and Jadeja scored a fifty each. At one stage, the World Number Two Test side was reduced to 168/5. However, thanks to the trio’s efforts, the team took the lead of 223 runs after the first innings. At this point, the visitors needed to bat long and give some challenge to India.

However, Ashwin had other ideas. He started by nicking Usman Khawaja to Virat Kohli at first slips in the second over.

Meanwhile, the veteran player didn’t have any five-wicket hauls in the last 10 Tests. Some of them were played at home and two of them were played in Bangladesh. However, the Tamil Nadu player ensured that he finishes the game in style. After picking Khawaja, he had the opportunity to get the wicket of Warner if not for Kohli dropping the catch.

However, Ashwin still had Warner’s number as the latter missed a straight delivery and was trapped lbw. The former’s third wicket was Mattew Renshaw who was trying to defend the ball on the backfoot but missed the ball. Peter Handscomb tried to defend the ball from the front foot but was hit on the pads. The umpires didn’t give it out but the DRS confirmed that it was a wrong decision.

A few overs later, the 36-year-old trapped Alex Carey while the latter tried to play his favorite reverse sweep. With this wicket. Ashwin finished his 31st five-wicket haul.
