Cricket Australia becomes the first board to announce its preliminary squad for the upcoming marquee tournament, the ODI World Cup 2023. The tournament will be held in India across 10 venues. The Australian cricket team will commence their campaign for the ODI World Cup 2023 against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 8 October 2023. Australia has also picked this 18-man squad for their mini ODI series against South Africa and India, which will be played ahead of the main tournament.

Notably, the Australian cricket team is scheduled to play its last ODI against India on 27 September, while the last date to submit the final squad for ODI World Cup 2023 is 28 September. This will be a great opportunity for Cricket Australia to keep their final 15-man squad that will play the championship.

Marnus Lambuchagne’s absence from the team is the biggest challenge that the squad might face in the matches. Marnus has played 30 of Australia’s 38 matches since his debut for the team in January 2020. With an attacking strike rate and an average of 31.37, Marnus has been a great find for the  Australian cricket team.

Pat Cummins has an undisplaced fracture of his left radius which requires six weeks rehabilitation,” said Australia’s selection chair George Bailey after the squad announcement. We view a period of enforced rest for Pat as a positive ahead of this important World Cup campaign,” said George Bailey after the announcement of Australia’s preliminary squad.

“There are still a number of games he could play before the World Cup which is more than enough for him to have a strong preparation,” added Australia’s selector George Bailey.
