Australia and New Zealand are all set to play a three-match ODI series starting tomorrow. Both the teams will be contesting for the ‘Chappel- Hadlee’ Trophy which began way back in 2004-05. The last ODI series between the two sides in Australia was canceled midway due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As the pandemic is slowly ending, the two sides are all ready to get the series going.
The Australians were handed a humiliating defeat by Zimbabwe in the third ODI of the recent three-match series. The Aussies were bundled out 141 batting first as Ryan Burl took a five-wicket haul in just three overs. The Zimbabwe batters reached the target with three wickets remaining in their innings. This was also their first-ever win in Australia in ODIs. Putting the loss in the last match aside, Australia won the series by 2-1.
New Zealand are also coming into this series after a 2-1 series victory over West Indies. Kiwis will look to continue their winning momentum and give the Aussies a tough fight in their own backyard. New Zealand are currently ranked no. 1 in the world in ODIs. They will put the Australian batters to a tough test against their bowling attack.
All-rounder, Mitchell Marsh will miss the series due to an injury while Pat Cummins has been rested. Travis Head has also made himself unavailable as his partner Jess is due to give birth to their child. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been going through a dismal form off late and will look to score some runs in the series. The fans will be expecting their star player to get amongst the runs before the upcoming 20-20 world cup in Australia.
