 Babar surpasses Virat Kohli’s big record after his ton against West Indies

Pakistan started on a winning note in the series against West Indies after defeating them in the first ODI on 8 June 2022. The visitors put up a competitive score while batting first, but it was the no.1 batter in the world, Babar Azam who again came up with a match-winning knock.

Babar scored a fantastic century (103 runs off 107 balls) during the chase. He got support from wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan (59 runs off 61 balls) and Imam-ul-Haq (65 runs off 71 balls). After this innings, the Pakistan skipper broke a big ODI record of Virat Kohli as he became the fastest layer to score 1000+ runs as captain in ODIs (13 innings). Previously, Virat Kohli scored more than 1000 runs as captain in 17 innings.

Babar Azam scored three consecutive centuries for the second time in his career 

This ton was Babar’s third ton on a trot as he scored the last two against Australia in the last home series against them. Even, he became the first batter in the history of the game to score three consecutive centuries twice in his career.

By achieving this feat, he included himself in an elite list of players like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. However, he was just 98 runs short of the thousand-run mark before this match. This was Babar’s 17th ODI hundred along with 18 fifties so far in his career.

Speaking about the match, after winning the toss, West Indies opted to bat first. Shai Hope played a brilliant knock of 127 runs of 134 balls to post a total of 305 runs in 50 overs. Shamarh Brookes also played a good inning of 70 runs off 83 balls. Pakistan’s Haris Rauf was the star of the show with the ball as he picked up four wickets.

In reply, World’s no.1 batter, Babar Azam played this scintillating knock along with some support from both Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq. At the death-end overs, Khushdil Shah scored a quickfire unbeaten 41 runs off 23 balls to ensure the victory for the home side. Pakistan will be in action against West Indies for the second match of this series on 10 June at the same stadium.
