The 36-year-old captain of the Mumbai Indians continued to struggle with the bat as he managed just 7 runs before being removed by Wanindu Hasaranga on May 9 during the IPL 2023 match between MI and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, following the game, Munaf Patel and Mohammad Kaif, two former Indian cricketers, questioned Rohit’s dismissal, with the latter citing the 3-metre rule. The DRS decision made during MI’s six-wicket victory over RCB also incensed Kaif.

Ishan Kishan and Rohit walked out to start the chance with a score of 200 needed to win, and while the former appeared to be in terrific form, the skipper’s stint at the crease was unexpectedly cut short by Hasaranga.

‘Hello DRS, yeh thoda jyada nahi ho gaya?’ – Mohammad Kaif

The incident happened on the final ball of Mumbai’s inning’s fifth over. Hasaranga, who made a strong plea, trapped Rohit as he attempted to play a shot towards the leg side. The on-field umpire was not persuaded. Therefore RCB captain Faf du Plessis requested a DRS review, and Ultra Edge verified no bat was present. After the replays confirmed three strikes, Rohit stumbled as he made his way back to the dugout.

However, Kaif tweeted a picture showing Rohit being outside his crease when the ball hit his pads and questioned how the dismissal was handled. “Hello DRS, yeh thoda jyada nahi ho gaya? How can this be lbw? ” wrote Kaif in his tweet.

Munaf Patel, a former MI player, had a similar worry in reference to the 3-meter regulation. “Lagta he ab DRS b DRS hona chahye, Unlucky #RohitSharma Kya bolti public, ye Out he ya nai ??” he questioned Rohit’s dismissal in a tweet.

The on-field batter shall stay not-out during a DRS review of a not-out call when the point of initial interception is 300cm (3m) or more from the stump, in accordance with Appendix D of the IPL’s playing conditions. Suryakumar Yadav‘s heroics allowed Mumbai Indians to win the game and move into the top four of the IPL 2023 points table. He scored 83 runs to help his team pull away with a dominant victory.
