On the first day of the ongoing first Test, Bangladesh left-arm spinner, Taijul Islam trapped Virat Kohli for lbw. At that point, the latter was batting on one run. However, Islam has maintained that him taking Kohli’s wicket isn’t the highlight of his career. He added that his line and length were good on the occasion and has taken the wicket of the former India skipper.

He also spoke about Cheteshwar Pujara’s wicket. The latter got out after scoring 90 runs as he tried to defend the ball but it turned well enough to disturb the furniture behind Pujara. Meanwhile, the left-arm spinner from Bangladesh bowled 30 overs in the day and took three wickets too. He was speaking to the media after Day One’s play

“I have picked up the wicket of Virat earlier in my career so doesn’t need to be the highlight of my career. I think the line and length was good and perhaps he missed on quite a few occasions but I felt that the ball (which removed Pujara) turned quite sharply. He felt it will be straight but as it turned it hit the stump,” Taijul said at the press conference after Stumps on Day 1.

Virat Kohl’s wait for another Test ton continues

Notably, the 2008 U19 World Cup 2008 winning captain is yet to score a Test ton in the post-pandemic era. His last Test ton against Bangladesh Tigers was in November 2019 (pre-pandemic era). While he has ended the century drought in ODIs (against Bangladesh recently) and hit his maiden T20 hundred (Men’s Asia Cup 2022), he is yet to hit a hundred in the red-ball format.

However, he might get another chance in the ongoing game depending on how the game fares. Also, he would get another opportunity in the second Test against the same side.
