Zimbabwe, while batting first posted a mammoth total of 408 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 50 overs as they lock horns with the United States of America in the ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe. Their skipper Sean Williams played marvellous innings where he scored 174 runs off 101 balls with 21 fours and five sixes in his innings.

Zimbabwe has already qualified for the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers Super Sixes stage. For their group stage encounter against the USA at the Harare Sports Club, they rested a few important players, including captain Craig Ervine. In Craig Ervine’s absence, Sean Williams went out to lead the team. After winning the toss, USA captain Monank Patel decided to field first. The USA bowlers let in 408 runs in 50 overs, thus the move did absolutely nothing to help his side.

There’s quite a big difference between the two: Sean Williams

Williams amused the Zimbabwean spectators at the Harare Sports Club while playing a captain’s knock. In his 101-ball innings, he hit five sixes and 21 fours. Williams was caught out on 174 and denied breaking Charles Coventry’s record for the highest score by a Zimbabwean in ODI cricket.

“A lot of people don’t like the cold but once you get in it and you’ve done it for a while, it’s almost something you can’t do without. It’s basically about learning not to fight the situation. If you fight the cold water, you are going to feel the cold. But if you keep still, concentrate on your breathing and just relax and take it easy, you can be there for a while,” Williams told ESPNcricinfo.

“We are trying to be a lot more positive and a lot less reckless. There’s quite a big difference between the two. Sometimes, previously, we were told what to do. Now, we’ve been taught how to think for ourselves and make decisions. We don’t have to send a message out onto the field anymore because the guys are seeing for themselves what to do,” the 36-year-old asserted.
