In a recent interview with Sports18, Yuvraj Singh discussed his battle with cancer and how his return to Team India was made possible. He became emotional as he recalled his difficulties. The left-handed batter has constantly chastised the Indian Cricket Board for how they treated him at the end of his career. Yuvraj failed the Yo-Yo test in 2017 and was thus dropped from the squad.

The ex-Indian cricketer eventually gained the necessary fitness but was kept out of the team till then. He returned to the Indian T20 team after overcoming cancer. However, he has been left out of the ODI team since 2013. The left-hander has spoken about his return to the Indian squad and how it came about. The two-time World Champion also acknowledged Dhoni and stated that he had full backing from the former Indian skipper.

Virat Kohli supported me: Virat Kohli

Yuvi said, “When I made my comeback, Virat Kohli supported me. Had he not backed me then I wouldn’t have made a comeback. But then it was Dhoni who showed me the correct picture about the 2019 World Cup that selectors are not looking at you,” Yuvraj told News18. “He showed me the real picture. He gave me clarity. He did as much as he could.”

The 41-year-old added, “Till the 2011 World Cup, MS had a lot of confidence in me and used to tell me that ‘you are my main player’,” Yuvraj said. “But after coming back from illness the game changed and a lot of changes happened in the team. So as far as the 2015 World Cup is concerned, you can’t really pinpoint at something. So this is a very personal call.” “So I understood that as a captain sometimes you can’t justify everything because at the end of the day, you have to see how the country performs.”

Yuvraj Singh was adjudged as the Player of the Tournament for the 2011 ODI World Cup. In 2017, he played his final One Day International (ODI) against West Indies, the same year he scored his best ODI score of 150 against England.
