The Chennai team is all set to begin their journey in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League against Kolkata on 26th March. But what comes in as a piece of breaking news for the fans, MS Dhoni has stepped down as Chennai skipper.

MS Dhoni has led Chennai in 204 matches, winning 121 of them. His win ratio in the tournament is an amazing 59.60. Dhoni has led Chennai to the Indian T20 League title four times and has taken them to the finals nine times. The fans of the team were waiting eagerly to see their beloved ‘Thala’ lead the team in another successful campaign.

Today, on 24th March 2022, just two days before the beginning of the tournament, the franchise announced on their official website that MSD has stepped down from the role, handing over the responsibilities to Ravindra Jadeja.

Notably, Ravindra Jadeja has been an integral part of the team since 2012. He is very familiar with the team culture and how they go about proceedings. Many cricket experts already stated that Jadeja is the best option as Dhoni’s replacement for the all-important role.

The announcement also made it clear that MSD will continue to play for Chennai, this year and beyond. The fans of the franchise will be going through a lot of emotions at present. They will be excited to see Ravindra Jadeja as the leader of the team and how the team performs under him. But they will be emotional about the fact that “Thala” will no longer be their leader.

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the Chennai-based franchise since 2012, will only be the third player to lead the team. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai this season and beyond,” read the official statement of the Chennai-based franchise.
