Brock Lesnar’s ‘unplanned’ handshake with Cody Rhodes on WWE Summerslam steals the show

A lot of events took place during Saturday’s WWE SummerSlam, but a simple gesture that has raised a lot of eyebrows among the netizens was a respectful handshake between Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes after the match ended. WWE Chief Content Officer (COO) Triple H has recently claimed that the handshake was completely unplanned. On the WWE show ‘Busted Open’, the WWE Hall of Famers Mark Henry and Bully Ray briefly discussed the moment and labelled it as a “Handover of the mantle” kind of a moment.

“When Brock does what Brock does, it means more than when anybody else does it. After that match, I don’t give a s–t if the handshake was planned or not — I don’t care. It worked. I thought that handshake moment should come when Cody wins the Universal Championship from Roman Reigns. We got it a lot earlier!” said Bully Ray on the show.

He argued that Brock Lesnar was anyway not the kind of a man who would stare at an opponent after a game and would instead go for a handshake or a hug. “Brock Lesnar has told the entire WWE Universe, the entire wrestling world [that] this is the guy that is taking WWE into the next couple of years,” added Bully Ray as he talked about how Cody Rhodes has the capabilities of being the face of the game after Brock Lesnar.

Titled the world’s heaviest man, Mark Henry had some other amazing observations about the gesture that Brock Lesnar made. He said, “[If] WWE Creative asked Brock to do that, he would have been like, ‘No,'” Henry said. “Now, Vince [McMcMahon] can ask him, and Brock would have probably said, ‘How’s that gonna get me paid?’ He’s a businessman first. If it feels right, maybe, but it has to be on his terms.”

“Michael Cole could have said, ‘Corey, that should have been a DQ’ and Corey could have said, ‘No, Brock initiated it and grabbed the steps first.’ Now, you cover that. It wasn’t a big enough deal that the fans went off, but that was a great indicator of why I don’t put all the stock in the fans’ analysis of what goes on in a match,” added Henry as the panel discussed the three referees had been lenient towards the match.
