India’s leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury in September 2022 due to which he is out of action for almost six months. The 30-year-old bowler will be missing the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League as he will fly to New Zealand for back surgery. There are speculations that he might be missing the WTC final as well, which will take place in June.

Former India allrounder Madan Lal believes that the Indian team management will take Umesh Yadav to the WTC final. He said that Bumrah’s injury is very serious and it will take time to recover, so we should forget him making a comeback sooner or later this year.

“They will take Umesh [to WTC final]. There you need at least 3 pacers to only one spinner might play and the rest will be fast bowlers. Bumrah ko ab bhool jao. Usko chhor dijiye aap (Forget Bumrah. Leave him out of the equation). When Bumrah returns, we will see then. Use whatever you have. What is the guarantee? No wonder when he will return – maybe 1 to 1.5 years. He has not played in so long. It means his injury his very serious,” Madan Lal said.

However, considering the upcoming 50-over World Cup, Bumrah decided to have back surgery in New Zealand so that he will be fit during the entire major world tournament. Lal took Hardik Pandya’s instance and said that it took 4 months to make comeback for Pandya. Lal mentioned that the fans need to have patience as Bumrah will take a lot of time to be back in action.

“At max, an injury takes 3 months to heal and he hasn’t played since September – even Hardik Pandya was able to return in 4 months post his back surgery – and Bumrah hasn’t played since 6 months. So how can you expect that this will be the same Bumrah that we have seen so far? It will take him time. If you want to see the same Bumrah, you will have to give him time,” mentioned the former India all-rounder.
