India are finding themselves in a commanding position in the ongoing second Test match against England at Visakhapatnam. Thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jasprit Bumrah for their exceptional performances. India got a significant lead of 143 runs in the first innings on a good batting surface which is expected to turn more as the match progresses further.

A 143-run lead in the first innings is decent on this kind of track, still, it was a job which is half done for India as they were aware after the 1st test that no score was safe against this dangerous England side with their Bazball approach. India came out with a cautious approach in the 2nd innings, especially against the 41-year-old veteran James Anderson who has back and is looking lethal than ever on subcontinental conditions.

Gill’s last Test century came against Australia in March 2023

Shubman Gill’s last Test century came against Australia where he scored 128 in Ahmedabad. Since then, the 24-year-old has scored 197 runs in 12 innings at an average of 17.9. Gill’s first Test century came in 2022 against Bangladesh in Chattogram, where he made 110 runs.

India started Day 3 shakily as they lost both their openers cheaply for just 30 runs including 1st innings double centurion Yashavi Jaiswal. Now the onus was on Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer who are fighting for a spot in the Indian test team after a string of low scores. Shubman Gill then took the matter into his own hands and played a gritty yet stylish innings of 104 runs in 147 balls including 11 fours and 2 towering sixes. Since coming down at the No.3 position, Shubman Gill has been out of form and has only averaged in the early 20s which is why there were calls to drop him from the test side doing the rounds in the cricketing circle.

Shubman Gill went past 100 runs in the 52nd over, taking a total of 132 deliveries in the innings and asserting India to a commanding position with the total lead going to 354 runs when he eventually tried to play a reverse sweep and got out to debutant Shoaib Bashir. Indian fans were going crazy seeing the talented 24-year-old right-handed batter, back in form and took to express their view of Gill’s brilliant ton on social media.
