On Day 2 of the second Test between West Indies and India in Port of Spain, Trinidad,  men from the Caribbean mounted some resistance and finished the day at 86-1. The only victim for West Indies was Tagenarine Chaderpaul who was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin off Ravindra Jadeja for 33 off 95 balls. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite ended Day 2 unbeaten on 37 off 128 balls with three fours. Debutant Krik McKenzie was unbeaten on 14 off 25 balls with one four and one six. McKenzie, after a nervy start, showed a lot of promise and calibre against the spinners and will look to convert a solid start into a big innings.

India continued from where they left off on Day 1 at 288-4 They were looking for the big score but a rapid fall of wickets meant that they ended up with 438 in the first innings. Virat Kohli continued from 86 off 158 balls. The former India skipper played some very eye-catching shots on his way to 121 off 206 balls with 11 fours. As he wanted to kick on, A superb throw from Alzarri Joseph sent him back to the pavilion. Kohli and Jadeja looked to take a tight single which resulted in the runout. Jadeja departed soon after for a well-made 61 of 152 balls with five fours.

Ravichandran Ashwin made 56 off 78 balls with eight fours for India

He was caught behind off Kemar Roach by Joshua Da Silva. Then Ishan Kishan came in and made a quickfire 25 off 37 balls with four fours. He was caught by Da Silva off  Jason Holder via a well-directed short delivery.  From this point on, India kept losing wickets as the West Indies chipped away. Ashwin batted with great intent as he hit eight fours in a valuable knock of  56 off 78 balls. Ashwin kept looking for scoring opportunities even as he batted with the lower order.

Ashwin got a well-deserved half-century. He took India to a good position. It is still baffling as to why he was benched during the World Test Championship (WTC) final  In the second innings, The West Indies made a good beginning with Chanderpaul hitting some fours early on and Brathwaite grinding it out. After Chanderpaul fell, McKenzie came out and took the spinners on during his innings. Unlike Dominica, West Indies showed a lot of grit and stood up to the Indian bowlers.
