‘Charas Gaanja mere ko pyara’ – Fans rip apart PCB chief Najam Sethi as he claims PSL has higher digital ratings than Indian T20 League
The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is over as the final match of the tournament was played on Saturday, March 18 between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in which the Qalandars won the title for the second time as they won the match by just 1 run, they were also the defending champions.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Najam Sethi spoke a lot about the media rating of PSL. He said that the media rating of PSL is more than the Indian T20 League. He said that the richest league in the world has a digital rating of 130 million and on the other hand, PSL has more than 150 million.
During a press conference ahead of the final, Sethi said, “Let’s talk about digital. PSL was only at the half stage, so I asked about our digital rating. Najam Sethi show used to have a 0.5 rating on TV, whereas PSL is getting a rating of more than 11. So, it would be 18 or 20, when it completes.”
“Over 150 million people watched it digitally. It is not a small thing. At the same stage, Indian T20 League’s digital rating was 130 million and PSL’s is more than 150 million. So this is a great success for Pakistan”, he added.
Shaheen Afridi was named player of the match in the final
Meanwhile, talking about the final match, the Qalandars won the toss and elected to bat first and the decision proved right as the top order provided a brilliant start to the team, especially Abdullah Shafique, who smashed 65 runs off 40 balls which included 8 fours and 2 sixes. However, the middle order collapsed horribly, courtesy of brilliant spin bowling Usama Mir.
But Lahore’s skipper Shaheen Afridi had different plans as he smashed 44 runs off just 15 deliveries to help his team achieve a total of 200 runs. He hit 2 fours and 5 sixes during his knock. Chasing the target, Usman Khan set the tone for the chase, Riley Rossouw took things over and Mohammad Rizwan held his end well as the chase seemed to be a stroll at one point.
But the magician, Rashid Khan started the slide by getting rid of the dangerous batter Rossouw. And after that, no other batter looked to be able to chase the target as they lost the crucial final by just 1 run.
