In a massive setback to Chennai, star pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the Indian T20 League. Chennai invested a hefty sum of INR 14 Cr on Deepak Chahar for the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. Chennai decided not to retain him ahead of the 15th edition of the tournament but later bought him back. He was one of the key members of the team and an integral part of their bowling strategies.

However, their plans received a major setback when Chahar sustained a right quadricep injury before the Indian T20 League 2022 while playing in the West Indies series. He was in rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru, where he suffered a back injury. While Chennai was hoping for him to recover at some point during the mega event, it has now been reported that Chahar will be out of action for at least four months. The official website of the Indian T20 League confirmed that Chahar will miss the entire season of the Indian T20 League.

Meanwhile, in another development, Rasikh Salam will no longer be featuring for the team in the Indian T20 League 2022 owing to a lower back injury. Salam played two games for the franchise in the tournament. Kolkata has signed Harshit Rana as Salam’s replacement for his base price of INR 20 Lakhs. In another piece of news, it is also confirmed that the physio of the Delhi franchise, Patrick Farhart has tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, speaking about Chennai, they have dearly missed the services of Deepak Chahar. The team has lost four of their five games and are staring at an early exit from the tournament. In the absence of Chahar, Chennai’s bowling looks relatively weak, with plenty of inexperienced player. The spinners have done well but there is a definite shortage of quality fast bowlers.
