Bangladesh recorded the biggest victory in the 21st century as they defeated Afghanistan by a huge margin of 546 runs in one of the only Test matches played between the two sides. This is the third biggest victory in Test cricket in terms of runs. The other two instances happened back in 1928 and 1934 respectively. England defeated Australia by 675 in 1928 and after six years, Australia returned the favor when they defeated England by 562 runs.

While chasing a mammoth total of 662 runs, Afghanistan was not in the game and they continued losing wickets at regular intervals. The Afghanistan batter struggled from the first ball and never looked to chase the target from there on. The team got bundled out at a mere total of 115 runs and the Afghanistan batting failed in the first innings as well as they were able to score only 146 runs in the first innings.

It is a good opportunity for the batters to bat on such a wicket and happy to see the bowlers bowl well: Najmul Hossain Shanto

Over the last three days, Bangladesh played some excellent Test cricket, preventing the visitors from making a comeback. Bangladesh lost five wickets for nine runs on the second morning, the only phase in which Afghanistan controlled the game. However, the 382-run first innings score was always enough for them. Afghanistan got bundled out in only 39 overs in the first innings.

Only four batters were able to touch the double digit mark with Nasir Jamal along with Afsar Zazai being the highest scorers for their side with scoring 35 and 36 runs respectively. They did not enforce the follow-on and before declaring their second innings, Bangladesh scored 425 runs in just 80 overs for the loss of four wickets. Bangladesh’s star player, Najmul Hossain Shanto, won the Player of the Match award for his heroics, scoring two centuries in the match.

“I am really with the way I batted. We (himself and Mominul) were talking about the record after I got to the hundred, he (Mominul) said welcome to the group. It is a good opportunity for the batters to bat on such a wicket and happy to see the bowlers bowl well. As a player we have to perform in all the formats and I was clear with my plans,” Shanto was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
