On the occasion of India’s 73rd Republic Day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a personal message to the Jamaican cricketer Chris Gayle. The Universe Boss took it to Twitter to announce it himself. Gayle wished India on the occasion of Republic Day and revealed that he received a message from India PM Narendra Modi
“I would like to congratulate India on their 73rd Republic Day. I woke up to a personal message from Prime Minister Modi @narendramodi reaffirming my close personal ties with him and to the people of India. Congratulations from the Universe Boss and nuff love,” read the tweet.
Gayle has had great ties with India, especially in the Indian T20 League. He was a part of many teams including Kolkata, Bangalore, and Punjab. His best run was with Bangalore, playing over 90 matches for the team and scoring over 3400 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 154.40. He was let go by the team ahead of the 2018 mega auctions. He was then picked by the Punjab team and played for them in the remaining seasons.
However, he did not get a lot of chances to play in the 2021 season. The 42-year old has not registered himself in the upcoming mega auctions for the tournament. It is being speculated that Chris Gayle might have played his last game in the Indian T20 League.
Chris Gayle played for the West Indies in 103 Tests, 301 ODI’s, and 79 T20i’s. He scored close to 10500 runs in the ODI’s. Gayle officially has not announced his retirement but it is expected that he will not play for West Indies ever again.
